Team Racing at Rutland
Team racing is very sociable with one team versus another in short races. It was designed to keep sailors warm through the winter months, with lots of tacking and gybing to get the circulation going.
It uses the skills of fleet racing but adds in the need to ensure your teammates are also doing well to ensure you finish well as a team, not just as an individual. This can lead to extremely tight racing in which boat handling and rules knowledge are tested, and races can be fought to the last inch of the racecourse.
It makes sailing a team sport which makes it a lot of fun.
Generally, it is run 3 boats v 3 boats or 2 boats v 2 boats.
You add up your finishing positions and the team with the fewest points wins. If the points are tied last boat loses.

At Rutland we have 8 club Fireflies which we use for practicing in. They are very manoeuvrable and are the team racing boat of choice on the UK circuit.
They can take a range of weights and suit a parent and child, two youths, two adults, or a combination thereof.
Firefly Open team racing starts in the spring.
We also have five club Fevas which are great for youth and junior sailing.
